Hand Solder Technician
Department: Manufacturing/Production
Reports To: Production Supervisor/Manager
Work Hours: Full time, Monday – Thursday 7:00 am -5:30pm
Overtime: as required
Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Hand Solder Technician to join our growing team. The Hand Solder Technician will be responsible for performing precision hand soldering of electronic components onto printed circuit boards (PCBs) and other assemblies. This role requires a strong understanding of soldering techniques, IPC standards, and the ability to work with delicate components under magnification.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform hand soldering of surface mount (SMD), through-hole, and other electronic components onto PCBs, flex circuits, and other assemblies according to established procedures and quality standards.
- Utilize soldering irons, hot air tools, and other hand tools to achieve high-quality solder joints.
- Inspect soldered connections for quality, including proper wetting, component placement, and absence of defects (e.g., cold joints, bridges, and excess solder).
- Rework and repair defective solder joints as needed.
- Read and interpret assembly drawings, schematics, and work instructions.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, including component tracking and lot traceability.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Collaborate with engineers and other team members to resolve production issues.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
- May be required to perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate’s degree in electronics a plus.
- Proven experience – 2 years or more as a Hand Solder Technician in a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated proficiency in hand soldering techniques, including SMD and through-hole components.
- Strong understanding of IPC standards (e.g., IPC-A-610) and quality control procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings, schematics, and work instructions.
- Experience working with small components and under magnification.
- Excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with rework and repair techniques is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
- IPC certifications (e.g., IPC-A-610, J-STD-001).
- Experience with specific types of soldering equipment (e.g., Hakko, Weller).
- Experience in a specific industry (e.g., aerospace, medical devices).
Physical Demands:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
